Tecom Group Inc., a Florida-based provider of software solutions for broadcasters and telecommunication companies, has released a new version of the file quality control system ORBOX.
The migration of the control server from Windows 10 to Debian 11 has become the highlight update of the new version. Thanks to this change, the control and analysis servers will from now on both operate under a Linux-based OS.
New tests
The wide set of quality checks has been further extended by a few new test templates:
- The Upconversion Detection test helps scan a video file for frames with lower picture quality. For example, if a Full HD video clip happens to have frames previously converted from SD the ORBOX system will give a heads-up and highlight the time codes requiring review and correction.
- The Video Bitrate Type test lets users find out what encoding type, constant bitrate (CBR) or variable bitrate (VBR), has been applied to the media file.
- The Audio Language Tags test allows finding and verifying language tags in metadata against those preset by the user.
- To spot bit depth mismatches between frames and corresponding metadata in the file, you can use the Bit Depth Matching test.
A few more changes were introduced to improve the existing tests:
- A new Minimal duration of a Video Fragment With a Defect parameter was added to the Stereo/Mono Mismatch test.
- Before running the Test signal test, users can now specify signal frequency.
Newly supported codecs
The users of the latest ORBOX version are now fully equipped to run tests for XAVC and JPEG2000 files.
Improved UI
Canceling a running test has become easier. To take a file off the test list, head straight to the Files being processed menu.
Besides, users are getting more insights from Task results thanks to the extended list of metadata properties. To include additional information about a file’s metadata in an HTML or PDF report, you need to turn on the corresponding setting in Settings->Report settings.
As opposed to being limited by a default report format, now users can pick one for auto-reports and reports sent via email individually. This adds more flexibility to how the analytics is presented and made use of.
Additionally, General Settings features a new ability to make the system rerun a task that has failed with an error. Once this setting is turned on, the control server starts automatically pushing files with a selected type of errors (like network or access problems) for another round of scanning.
